The renovation of a 20 m2 studio in the Marais district, the Apartment rue de Poitou by Boclaud Architecture, seamlessly blends functionality and warmth in a contemporary setting. Guided by the client’s passion for architecture and design, particularly contemporary Belgian architecture, the design highlights these influences. The space is divided into a technical living area and a sleeping area reminiscent of a hotel suite, optimizing the living experience.
Central to the layout is a multifunctional custom cabinet housing storage, a refrigerator, a table, and a bed, catering to the owner’s needs, even when hosting family. This cabinet cleverly conceals access to the shower room, adding an element of surprise. The kitchen, suspended and integrated into the central cabinet, contributes to the space’s clean aesthetic. Materials such as wood, polished concrete, and lacquer were meticulously chosen for their simplicity and elegance.
White-painted beams enhance the sense of space and luminosity, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Every aspect of the renovation aims to provide a comfortable and practical living space that marries functionality with contemporary aesthetics, offering a unique experience in the Marais. Furthermore, the design was influenced by the owner’s existing Perriand appliques from the Arcs, informing the choice of furniture that would complement the space. Overall, the renovation achieves a harmonious fusion of modern design principles with the client’s personal tastes and lifestyle preferences, resulting in a stylish yet functional urban retreat in the heart of Paris.
