Greek-based Domitech Construction was completely renovated in Andros Island, Greece, a house of ’50s. The Aegean aesthetics are perfectly combined with the timeless elegance in this house. Trying to give an extroversion to the interior of the house, they created a dialogue with the new volumes. The external staircase became circular and follows the curve of the upper roof, while the main features of the house are the design references to the plasticity of the island’s volumes and the natural use of the local stone.
On the ground floor, which communicates with the courtyard, an extension was made and a circular bathroom was created with a built-in shower and a bench lined with cement mortar. The old stone was kept on the wall of the sink, taking off the traditional, island elegance. At the entrance, the ceiling with the cypress wood and the stone support was restored and maintained, emphasizing the respect for the finesse of another era. Upstairs the old roof was dismantled and a new one was built, as well as the earthen mezzanine floor was replaced with a concrete slab.
