Martini House, a European-inspired holiday home for a young family of five, is located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and designed by Inglis Architects in collaboration with Georgina Jeffries. The project aims to create a beach house that leaves lasting memories for the children, evoking the warmth of family summers. Founder Charlies Inglis emphasizes the importance of crafting an emotional escape from the family’s permanent residence in Melbourne, leveraging their previous experience designing the Melbourne house for a seamless transition.
The design features a selection of materials known for their natural beauty and unique imperfections, including solid timber, concrete benchtops, stone floors, and mineral-finished walls. These elements contribute to sculptural components such as the fireplace, island bench, and a stand-alone bar, all reflecting a cohesive aesthetic of simplicity and restraint. Georgina Jeffries added a playful touch to the home with carefully chosen furniture, objects, and art, aiming for a relaxed, sanctuary-like atmosphere amidst the surrounding water and trees.
The interior features thick rugs, soft linens, and warm leathers that complement the natural wood and stone palette. This minimalist approach is further enhanced by dusty-hued artworks and handmade pieces scattered throughout the space, including a personal favorite by Jahnne Pasco-White that adorns a custom bench created by a local studio. Together, the collaboration results in a tranquil retreat that balances elegance with a family-friendly ambiance.
