Atelier MKD recently completed a 300m2 apartment in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, designed for a discerning contemporary art collector, the Place Iena. The owner’s vision was to create a refined space with clean lines to showcase their art collection effectively. Marika Dru, the founder of Atelier MKD, pursued an architectural design characterized by understated elegance, employing contrasting grey tones to emphasize the art pieces, which seamlessly aligns with the apartment’s Parisian decor.
Marika Dru’s preference for contrasting materials, such as marble and wood, adds depth through modern ornamentation. Her approach often centers around a single striking object when planning the interior layout. In this case, Michel Boyer’s stainless steel X stool inspired the incorporation of various striking metal pieces. The core focus of the project is modularity, emphasizing flexibility in spatial arrangement, volumes, and lighting, effectively transforming the apartment into a gallery-like space tailored to the art collector’s unique requirements.
