Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West have opened the doors of their Los Angeles home to Architectural Digest magazine, which is described as “wildly idiosyncratic family refuge in suburban Los Angeles”. The house was bought in 2014 and was renovated in order to become, as Kanye put it, a “futuristic Belgian monastery”. The project came to life with the help of Belgian designer and tastemaker Axel Vervoordt. “We didn’t talk about decoration but a kind of philosophy about how we live now and how we will live in the future,” Vervoordt told the magazine.
The proportions of the mansion’s rooms were all changed and the furnishings were reduced to a minimum. They used neutral palette, minimal furnishings, natural materials and rooms covered in an off-white plaster having as a result a minimalistic house. Kanye describes the house as “90 percent Axel” because several other designers helped, such as Claudio Silvestrin designed the voluminous master bath, Vincent Van Duysen helped furnish the living room as well as the children’s bedrooms, Wirtz International Landscape Architects oversaw the design of the burgeoning, purposely all-green gardens and Family New York were architectural designers on the project.
