Hotel Brosundet opened in April 2008, after renovating an existing warehouse along the old harbour in Alesund on the west coast of Norway. The warehouse was originally built as part of an ambitious rebuilding effort after the great fire of Alesund in 1904.
Alesund Town is spectacularly located on small islands, where the fjords and mountains meet the ocean. The coastal city with a population of 50 000, is the largest between Trondheim and Bergen and one of Norway’s most significant export ports.
Apotekergata 5, which today houses Restaurant MAKI and Hotel Brosundet, was originally a warehouse that processed the catch of the day from the fishermen. This was an important role for the fishing trade in western Norway.
The building is listed as a National Art Nouveau Landmark.
The Hotel houses 47 rooms and has an intimate atmosphere with almost no two rooms having the same layout. The guest rooms provide a view of the seafront of Alesund and the Atlantic Ocean in the horizon.
In the Hotel interior, the wooden beam construction is left exposed in all rooms. The bathrooms stand out as shiny, sharp jewels of cream tiles and frosted glass. The furniture was designed with refined detailing in white stained oak to link the rawness of the original construction and the modern bathroom elements.
With well-detailed high quality materials and finishes, Snohetta was able to compliment the old industrial construction in a refined, yet unpretentious way.

Our passion is to preserve the buildings as they originally were warehouses and significant to the fishery in small town Alesund. As soon as you enter the hotel you will find inspirational design combined with an authentic story to tell. The outer walls of the hotel extend directly into the waters of Brosundet, Alesund true town center.

HOTEL BROSUNDET BAR
Sink into the sumptuous leather chairs or choose a stool by the copper-topped bar. Behind the bartender are handcrafted shelves that proudly show our selection of fine wines and liquors – at least a small part of it.
