The Vipp Cold Hawaii Guesthouse

In the vast expanse of Thy National Park, amidst the untamed coastal landscape, sits a solitary cottage on a 9900 m² plot of land in the tiny town of Vangså, the Vipp Cold Hawaii by Hahn Lavsen. Seemingly endless plains of Leymus surround the cottage, offering a secluded retreat with no neighbors in sight.
Initially resembling a traditional fisherman’s cottage from afar, the structure reveals itself as a modern marvel upon closer inspection, blending seamlessly into its surroundings with geometric forms and repeating silhouettes. Transformed by the local architect studio Hahn Lavsen, the 185 m² guesthouse stands as a striking example of contemporary design within the historic setting of Cold Hawaii. Offering three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a utility room, and a combined living area and kitchen, the interior boasts modern amenities and thoughtful touches.
The heart of the living area features a well-appointed Vipp V3 kitchen, complemented by a large island and customized oak cabinets. Local artistry is integrated throughout the space, with pieces such as the ‘Lineated Luminary’ wall carpet by Rasmus Søndergaard Johanssen adding character to the high-ceilinged entrance hall. The guesthouse’s design reflects a serene palette inspired by the natural landscape, with sandy tones and textures dominating the decor.
Subtle textiles and colorways adorn the curtains, bedspreads, and cushions, allowing the surrounding scenery to take center stage. Artistic elements, including ceramic pieces by Bénédicte Vallet and custom-made textiles by Benthe Boesen, enhance the ambiance of the space. Additionally, preserved beams from the original house and hand-painted murals by renowned artists Frederik Næblerød and Thomas Øvlisen add unique touches to the bathrooms, creating a blend of modern comfort and artistic expression within the coastal retreat.
