Ghent-based architect Benoit Viaene designed this beautiful family residence. Defining the home are curving walls and high-ceilinged volumes, which bring an ambiance of grandeur to each space. Tempering the high ceiling lines and vast dimensions are furnishings and accents crafted from raw, noble materials with layered textures, elements that ground the proportions back to a human level.
He created the home from scratch, meaning he created bespoke interiors, customizing furniture pieces to fit both the space and the clients’ wishes. His use of wood as a dominant material is a significant element that shines throughout the home. The flow of natural light, be it from the large sliding glass doors that lead out onto the terrace or the small roof lights that subtly illuminate the dressing room or hallways. Taken in as a whole, the residence showcases Viaene’s discerning eye for detail and deep understanding of materials and building techniques, perfectly summing up his design approach to the project.
