An old Village School house, designed by Norm Architects, is located in the Danish Riviera north of Copenhagen, close to the beach as well as lakes and unspoiled forests, dating back to 1721. The old school consist of two old timbered buildings with thatched roofs, that have now been delicately restored on the outside, with respect for the old traditional building style, but modernized on the inside and united with a minimalist glass connection, inspired by the covered walkways of the near-by Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
The interior, like all of Norm’s designs, retains classic principles from its Scandinavian roots but is otherwise unrecognizable from the old schoolhouse. The floors have been converted to modern polished concrete and the walls painted a clean white. The hardness of the floors is balanced with warm wood accents, a reference to the traditional timber construction of the building. Upholding Minimalist principles, the home is furnished with a highly curated selection of objects. Each piece was carefully selected for both its functionality and aesthetics.
