Restaurant Jacobsz was given its name after the designer of the building, Caspar Philips Jacobszoon. The restaurant Jacobsz is located in the former ‘Herberg het Regthuys’ a monumental building on the corner of the Middenweg-Ringdijk and renovated in Autumn 2016 by Nicemakers.
The site was previously the border between Amsterdam and Watergraafsmeer, the exact place where the key of Amsterdam was handed over to Napoleon. The exterior of the building has been carefully restored to honor the original heritage characteristics of the architecture.
The ground floor of the restaurant Jacobsz is divided into two main spaces divided in the middle by a grand hallway. The atmosphere is homely, thanks to the open kitchen/bar that runs between the spaces. The tones of yellow and mustard used in the space were inspired by imagery of dishes created by the chefs of restaurant Jacobsz.
The venue on the first floor, in the former inn, is refurbished for occasions such as private dining, events and meetings. The ambiance is similar with that of the restaurant, but has a more rustic and calm feeling.
The history of the building is evident throughout the event spaces. The cigar-smoking lounge perfectly suits the period of this building tying in with the stately design of the facade.
The tower on top of the building is visible in a famous painting about the arrival of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1811 in Amsterdam. The colors of this painting inspired the color palette of the interior. The connection with this amazing painting is still present, thanks to the father of one of the restaurant owners. He gifted a hand painted copy of the painting to the restaurant Jacobsz, which currently hangs above the fireplace.
In the bespoke bookcase to the back wall of the entrance space, contains an array of new and historic items. Each of the spaces features an eclectic collection of treasures. Like a colorful glass collection and a reclaimed bar which sits alongside the kitchen in the back of the room.
