Nick Nemechek is a designer that now works for the Danish design studio Menu and these pictures are from his chic apartment in Copenhagen, Denmark. Before moving in he was living in New York City and decided to go to Copenhagen in order to merchandising and e-commerce for the Menu. After many declines of many spaces, he happened upon a large flat, affordable for its size, located in an 18th-century building in the center of the city. He quickly set up a time to see it, and upon arrival realized it was in the middle of renovations.
The owner, who had lived in the apartment for decades, was reallocating the square footage to create a larger rental and a smaller home for himself. They were moving walls, and opening several pairs of double doors that had been sealed—as well as closing some. The things that attracted him the most in this house was original molding floors that were being refinished, a fresh coat of paint and Nemechek’s addition of plush velvets, books and art make it undeniably chic.
