The concept of the «cave» was the primary inspiration for the project Wooden Cave, by Tenon Architecture, at the Hyades Mountain Resort in Trikala Korinthias, Greece. The «cave» that once provided shelter for humankind and protection from the natural elements has been transformed into a space of hospitality and leisure in the context of a contemporary resort. The design, with its curved surfaces, and the choice of wood as the primary building material seek to recreate a warm and welcoming environment that retains the archetypical feeling of a natural shelter.
The synthesis of the space is based on the idea of dividing the plan into two zones: the main room and the secondary spaces. This division intends to create a clear distinction between the hard, “protective” shell and the curved, “inviting” interior, reminiscent of the form of a cave that has been used as a refuge and a haven throughout human existence. Materiality was of paramount importance in the spatial expression of this project, with most of its elements being wooden and the outer spaces made from stone sourced from the local area.  Meanwhile, the form evokes the visitor’s imagination and invites them to explore and experience the space with all their senses.
