Residence Viglostasi, designed by the Athens-based architecture studio Block722, is a private holiday home located on the Cycladic Island of Syros. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Aegean villages, the house blends minimalist architecture with natural materials and neutral colors. Commissioned by a family of four, the project reflects their desire for a serene retreat that harmonizes with the island’s lifestyle.
Spanning 500 sq m, the complex comprises low, orthogonal volumes interconnected by pathways, terraces, and gardens. The main house features a principal suite, a second bedroom, and an open-plan living space, while two guest suites offer additional accommodations. A central outdoor plaza serves as the focal point, leading to an Olympic-size infinity pool and a lounge terrace, with a gym and yoga terrace nestled beneath.
The design integrates seamlessly with the steep landscape, offering panoramic views from different levels. Traditional elements such as stone, wood, and plaster, along with terrazzo floors and native vegetation, enhance the sense of belonging within the Greek environment. Despite its modest appearance, the house exudes a sense of luxury through spacious interiors and high-quality materials like Olympus marble and oak wood. The layout reflects the client’s vision of a family of traditional Aegean structures, each offering unique perspectives and spatial qualities.
The seamless indoor-outdoor connection encourages exploration and enjoyment of the surrounding landscape. Furthermore, the property features a private cove for swimming and yacht mooring, enhancing its appeal as a tranquil haven. Overall, Residence Viglostasi embodies a modern interpretation of Aegean architecture, characterized by simplicity, harmony with nature, and understated luxury. It represents the culmination of the client’s dream for a holiday home that celebrates the essence of island living while providing comfort and serenity for generations to come.
